The Penitent Magdalene Comforted by Angels — Josefa De Ayala E Cabrera

Josefa De Ayala E Cabrera’s The Penitent Magdalene Comforted by Angels, dated 1679, presents Mary Magdalene’s penitence as a moving vision of sorrow, spiritual consolation, and divine grace. Attended by angels, the saint becomes the centre of a deeply devotional scene that invites contemplation of repentance, mercy, and renewed faith. The work reflects the emotional intensity and sacred drama of the Portuguese Baroque, while retaining the distinctive sensitivity associated with Josefa’s religious art. This museum-inspired reproduction honours the painting’s meditative character and enduring expression of Christian devotion. Printed as a premium matte fine-art print on 200 gsm paper, it brings a distinguished sacred image into spaces dedicated to prayer, reflection, and religious art.
