Frederick the Wise Before the Virgin Mary — Lucas Cranach the Elder

Lucas Cranach the Elder’s Frederick the Wise Before the Virgin Mary, dated 1515, presents the Saxon elector in humble devotion before the Virgin and Christ Child. Combining donor portraiture with sacred imagery, Cranach creates a reverent encounter shaped by the refined linear clarity and vivid colour associated with the Northern Renaissance. Frederick’s prayerful presence heightens the work’s contemplative character, while the holy figures form the spiritual focus of the composition. This museum-inspired reproduction honours the painting’s union of courtly dignity, Marian devotion, and intimate religious feeling. Printed as a premium matte fine-art print on 200 gsm paper, it brings a distinguished image of faith and prayer into contemplative interiors.

Our museum-inspired reproductions are printed on premium 200 gsm matte paper, with edge-to-edge artwork and supplied unframed.

To prepare selected historical artworks for fine-art printing, we digitally enhance images where necessary, including adjustments to brightness, contrast and colour balance. These refinements are intended to improve print reproduction while respecting the character of the original artwork. Colours and tonal values may therefore differ from the original painting.
